The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) mourns the death of one of its favorite giraffes, Tangi.

Tangi was found dead in her exhibit on Sunday morning by her care-givers.

He is one of the three Rothschild’s giraffes brought to the Uganda Wildlife Centre in 2009 for conservation education purposes and breeding has died.
UWEC posted the sad news on its Facebook page. “Dear Friends, we regret to inform you of the untimely death of one of our favorite giraffes, Tangi. Tangi was found dead in her exhibit on Sunday morning by her care-givers.”

The post-mortem findings indicate that she (Tangi) had a mass growth of chronic onset leading to gradual intestinal obstruction, sudden colic and toxaemia (high level of bacterial toxins) due to retention of excreta.

The UWEC group says they were deeply saddened by her death and will greatly be missed.

“She will always be remembered as the first giraffe that embraced training for the hand feeding program,” read the post on Facebook.

The date for the memorial of Tangi is yet to be revealed.
