Over 100 golfers are taking part in the 5th edition of the two-day annual Hima Open at Kilembe Golf Club. Most national golfers will not feature as they’re other tournaments like the Orange/Castle Lite September mug in Entebbe and MTN monthly mug at Kitante today.
Hima Cement injected Ush25m in this year’s tournament that mainly attracts golfers from clubs in Fort Portal, Jinja.Kasese and Mbarara.
Golfers from all over the country are vying for top honors in both the men and women categories. Hima Cement staff will also feature at the tourney.
Hima Cement Plant Manager, Peter Robson believes that golf in Uganda has grown tremendously over the years and the company was glad to be associated with its growth.
“The Hima Open has become an annual prestigious event for all the golf lovers in the South Western region and indeed all over the country who come to Kilembe and enjoy the beautiful game. There will be great prizes in all categories,” Robson said told the New Vision.
Joseph Otwane, the Captain of Kilembe Mines Golf Club expressed gratitude towards Hima Cement for their support over the years which has helped build the Club’s profile.
“Hima has done quite a lot for the club in saving the Kilembe club and support young talented players in the country, “Otwane added.
