It was a very hard decision to make but I discussed with my family and I thought it as a player that I needed to challenge myself and move out of my comfort zone, and also the urge to win the Uganda Premier League and some domestic titles and playing continental football.
Toha Rashid, popular known as ‘Martesacker’ among his peers is a Ugandan centre back who of recent left Onduparaka football club for Vipers SC after spending five seasons at the Arua based side.
He was born on October 9, 1998 to the late Abubakar Asiku and Hassan Fatima at Adjumani hospital.
The 20 year old studied at Biyayi Primary School(P.1), Adjumani Central (P.2 and P.3), Cesia Primary School(P.4), and Manibe Islamic Primary School(P.5-P.7).He then proceeded to Moyo SS and later Nyangilia SS in Koboko for his secondary education.
He started his football career way back in 2005 in his native hometown, Adjumani at a local club called Alhilal commonly known as Ramadhan Fc.He also played for other clubs such as Red Bull Fc, Paridi Fc, FHL Moyo Fc (local clubs in Adjumani), before completing a switch to Arua based side Onduparaka Fc in 2014.He joined the club when it was playing in the FUFA regional league.
Toha went onto enjoy a lustrous career at the Greenlight stadium , getting the club promoted to the FUFA Big League. After just a season in the BIG League, the club was promoted to the Uganda Premier League.A historical squad that consisted of talented stars like Muhammad Shaban (Vipers Fc), Gadafi Wahab (Wakiso Giants), Gadafi Cypher (Mbarara Fc), Anini Sadat(Wakiso Giants), Agau Rashid (Maroons Fc),Ajaib Nafian (URA Fc) among others lifted the club to glories never witnessed in the Northern sub-region of Westnile.
It is sad to imagine that all these aforementioned players now play their trade in other Premier League clubs.
After the departure of club captain and marksman Muhammad Shaban to Moroccan side Raja Casablanca in 2018, Toha took over the reigns as the new team leader. He inspired the club to famous displays against some of the big horns in the league including KCCA Fc, SC Villa, Express, URA among others.
After five astounding years, the 6’6 ft defender left the “Caterpillars” to face a new challenge. With the help of his family, Toha was able to seal a nove to the Wakiso based side Vipers, he stated in an interview with the Uganda times.
“It was a very hard decision to make but I discussed with my family and I thought it as a player that I needed to challenge myself and move out of my comfort zone, and also the urge to win the Uganda Premier League and some domestic titles and playing continental football. And I also want to reach a few more dreams and I thought Vipers was the right club.”
Toha’s decision to move on was also prompted by financial challenges that Onduparaka Fc was facing.
“Onduparaka Fc was going through difficult times financially and the urge for new challenges also influenced….. but honestly I just needed a new challenge and I wanted to know what is beyond Onduparaka.”
The Venom star seems to be enjoying life at his new club. However he said that it’s all a new challenge for him.
“There is a lot of pressure compared to Onduparaka Fc because it is a big team with big dreams and the urge to be the best and thus through results because they want to be the best in Africa, but it’s good and that’s exactly what I wanted so yeah, I have embraced it with two hands and I want to work hard and be part of the history of this club.”
Toha, who is also a dead ball specialist with massive air prowess and good game reading is one of the best young defenders in the league. He is also the tallest player at St.Mary’s followed by Bashir Sekagya and Tito Okello.
