Ivan Byekwaso won Uganda’s first medal at the World Natural Body Building and Fitness Championships in Nitra, Slovakia over the weekend.
The five-time winner of Mr. Uganda became the first Ugandan to ever win a medal at a World Bodybuilding Championship. “I am very happy to have entered into my country’s history books,” he told media after his win.
“I have proved my doubters wrong and this victory is for my Ugandan fans and sponsors who made this trip for me possible. God is great.” he added.
The USPA body builder of the year won silver while South Australia’s Ben Wortley won Gold on Saturday evening.
Byekwaso almost didn’t attend the championships but was bailed out by President Museveni who gave him Ushs 8million for the trip. He is now preparing for the Natural Body Building Olympics to be held in USA in November.
