The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) is still waiting for a pledge from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni that he made last year ahead of the Africa Cross Country Championships slated for 16th March at Kololo Independence grounds.

The federation is short of funds but is optimistic the pledge of 360,000 dollars will help in the organization of the championships. President Museveni promised the funds at Stephen Kiprotich’s appreciation dinner in Rwakitura.

UAF’s President Dominic Otuchet believes the funds for the event will be available according to his contacts in State house, though time could be running out, since hotels for the athletes and officials haven’t yet been procured.

Otuchet told local media, “Am in touch with many people linked to state house and they have assured me the money will come.”

“However, our major challenge is that time is running out.” There are services that we have to procure in time, like the hotels for the athletes and officials.” he added.

South Africa hosted African Cross Country Championships in 2012 and already 26 African countries have confirmed participation in this year’s edition.
