Ugandan government from Kampala in plans to establish passport issuance centers United States Washington DC. To ease on the process of passport renewal for Ugandans abroad, the ministry has decided to establish various centers at different high commissions across the world.
After establishing a passport issuance center at the Uganda High Commission in London UK, the deal is now to address other issuance centers among which is the one to come in late march 2022 in Washington DC.
The move was disclosed by Mr. Jacob Siminyu, the spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs will addressing the press.
Many Ugandan citizens are spread working, studying, and living in the US and these will be ably served by the new passport issuance center in the states.
Before these people had challenge of renewing their traveling documents which has tiresome, as some have been using friends and relatives in East Africa to aid in renewing their documents in Kampala. But this time the door is opened close to ease their document processing.
Siminyu said, “We expect all our citizens around that area to submit their application for a passport, go for the interview, an application processed and still get their passport from there”.
And the process also involved the virtual interviews scheduling with the passport office before the passport are issued and sent abroad via courier companies which seemed so costly.
Convenience has topped the new invasion as the process has shifted from one month to only three month, and has well less costing, said Siminyu.
The ministry in recent month shifted passport application which was manual to online that possibly enables the process.
The ministry is planning to set various passport issuance centers globally at various Uganda High Commissions which are spread across respectively. The center setting is based on analysis and placed in centers which host a sizeable number of Ugandans.
Other centers
The Ministry of Internal Affairs as well revealed how they are to establish various passport issuance centers across the continent at different Uganda missions among which include Ottawa (Canada) to cater for Ugandans in North America, Copenhagen (Denmark) serving Ugandans in the Scandinavian countries, and Adu Dhabi United Arab Emirates serving Ugandans in the Middle East and the Pretoria in South Africa.
