Uganda Scouts’ Association Launches Environment Protection Campaign

Uganda scouts’ association in Elgon Sub-region have launched the Elgon conservation group to protect, preserve the environment and fight the effects of climate change.

The association in partnership Uganda Wildlife Authority of the Mount Elgon Area, Makerere University business school are prioritizing the restoration of environment through the youths.

The association started with a tree planting exercise aimed at reafforestation of the Mount Elgon Area, thus protecting the environment from the  effects of climate change.

Olivia Biira the Warden of the Mount Elgon National Park stressed the importance of conservation being a concern for every citizen. She advised that trees play an important role in protecting the environment including watershed management, air purification and biodiversity protection.

A Board Member representing the Eastern Uganda Scout Association Seno P emphasized the importance of conserving nature. He encouraged the students and young people to protect the environment from deforestation and its disastrous effects.

Amram John, the patron of the Uganda Scouts Association noted that the campaign to protect the environment will bear fruits.
