Police says it has closed down a militia camp in Luweero jungles that was being operated under the guidance of Major (Rtd) Roland Kakooza Mutale.
Addressing press on Saturday, police chief Kale Kayihura, observed that the last couple of weeks, political parties have been involved in primaries and are now preparing for the nomination of their candidates which marks the beginning of the campaign period.
As such, Kayihura noted, violence by organised groups recruited either by political parties or political actors, have occurred in the past.
He thanked media for being vigilant in informing about organisers of violence eg Maj. Kakooza Mutale’s KAP.
Kayihura announced that the Police led a team of joint security forces to close Maj. Mutale’s KAP.
Mutale’s camp is located at Matembe farm in Kamira sub-county in Luweero district.
Mutale is vividly remembered for his Kalangala Action Plan (KAP) that terrorised opposition in 2001 elections.
By this latest police action, Mutale had already graduated the first batch of militia in a bush camp in Luweero district, 60 kilometres north of Kampala.
Mutale gained more popularity in 2007 with his Kiboko Squad, armed thugs dressed in civilian clothes and using big sticks to beat up demonstrators who were protesting against President Yoweri Museveni’s proposed sale of Mabira Forest to the Mehta Group for sugarcane growing.
His new militia was aimed at neutralising Museveni’s political opponents come 2016 elections especially; Gen David Tinyefuza, Gen Benon Biraro, Gen Mugisha Muntu, Col. Kizza Besigye and former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi.
