OPM SCAM: Speaker Okays PAC Investigations

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has made a u-turn, re-directing the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to continue with investigations into the financial mismanagement of over sh30bn in the Office of the Prime Minster (OPM).

PAC chairman, Mr Kassiano Wadri told the press yesterday that the speaker had told the committee he heads to continue with its investigations, though they will not be interrogating the people cited in the DPP’s letter. The committee will resume its investigations effective February 26th .

This will see the First lady, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni who also dubs as Minister for Karamoja Affairs, the Prime Minister, Hon. Amama Mbabazi and the Director Firm Engineering appear before the committee soon.

Ms Kadaga, on February 8th, wrote a letter to the PAC chairman, explaining that the Rules of Procedure do not permit Parliament to handle issues, if proceedings have begun in courts of law. This caused massive roars from legislators who sighted unfairness in the Speaker’s decision.
