The National Housing and population census exercise has kicked off on Thursday and President Yoweri Museveni has been enumerated on the first day of the exercise.
The President together with the First Lady of Uganda, Hon Janet Museveni were counted at State House in Nakasero.
“Janet and I have been counted at State House Nakasero,” Museveni posted on his Facebook page.
“I call upon all Ugandans to endeavour to be counted for better planning of our nation. The information you give is used to make better policies and plans, and to improve service delivery in your community,” he added.
By 8:00am, the census had already started as enumerators headed to their respective attached areas around the country.
Speaking to the press this morning, the Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Ben Mungyereza has said the first batch of the population has already been counted.
Some of the politicians who have been counted includes former Leader of Opposition, Hon Nandala Mafabi who was enumerated from his home in Busamaga.
“Sisters and brothers I was counted with my family at 7:00am in Busamaga. Kindly make sure you are counted. God bless you all,” Mafabi said.
Enumerators have said being the first day many people have responded well towards the exercise.
The census enumeration exercise is to run for 10 days until September 6 (next week) under the theme, “counting for planning and improved service delivery.”
Security agencies including police are on a high alert and deployed in enumeration areas in order to deal with groups that could sabotage the enumeration.
