CDF Warns Retired Officers against Tarnishing UPDF Image

Chief of Defense Forces (CDF)Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala has warned Ex – UPDF officers pursuing a political career to desist from tarnishing the image of the institution.

Making remarks at the retiring ceremony of Four UPDF officers at Ministry of Defence Head Quarters in Mbuya on Tuesday Gen. Katumba said officers who leave the army for political careers should be proud of the institution because it made them what they are today.

Gen. Katumba the Uganda Peoples Defense Constitution will deal with them if any retired officer from the army uses unconstitutional powers to gain fame their political careers.

Among those he retired with Political ambitions was Lt. Kasumba Patrick who intends to contest for the Buyenje County MP seat in 2016 was also sent off who is planning to unseat the incumbent Princess Kabakumba Matsiko.

Gen. Katumba also decorated 114 junior and senior officers from lieutenants to brigadier generals.

Other retired officials included General Benon Buta Biraaro who joined the institution on 6th July 1982 but was absent, Brigadier Bernard Rwehururu who recently suffered a stroke. Rwehururu has served the army for 48 years, having joined in 1965 and the Ssaabanyala, Major Baker Ssebaggala Kimeze was also discharged from the institution, years after he took over the leadership of the controversial Banyala cultural institution.
