President Yoweri Museveni has confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding certain staff members at State House. However, he dismissed claims of involvement by renowned businessman Abu Mukasa and his senior defense and security advisor, Lt. Gen. Prossy Nalweyiso, in any misconduct.
In his address, Museveni acknowledged receiving intelligence reports highlighting offenses committed by some State House employees. However, he firmly stated that neither Mukasa nor Nalweyiso are implicated in the case.
The president also emphasized Mukasa’s significant role in driving Uganda’s economic growth, particularly his efforts to secure investments worth billions of dollars and link Uganda to global business ventures.
Museveni credited Mukasa with facilitating a major deal that brought the bulk fuel supplier Vittol to Uganda, resulting in petroleum prices considerably lower than those procured through corrupt channels.
The president praised Mukasa’s achievements in helping Uganda benefit from reduced fuel prices. He also highlighted Mukasa’s role in introducing Sheikh Maktoum, an investor from the UAE, to Uganda. This partnership led to further investments in sectors such as air cargo, gold refining, and export of agricultural produce.
Addressing the rumors involving Lt. Gen. Nalweyiso, Museveni lauded her long-standing service in the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Despite her lack of formal education, he emphasized that she played a pivotal role in Uganda’s liberation. Museveni pointed out that many of the National Resistance Army (NRA) fighters who helped stabilize Uganda were not highly educated, yet their contributions were instrumental in solving the country’s critical challenges.
Recalling Uganda’s struggles in 1986, Museveni spoke of the severe shortages of basic commodities such as soap, salt, and sugar, as well as the prevalence of smuggling and the black market.
He credited individuals like Nalweyiso with addressing these issues, leading to the improvement of Uganda’s economy. Museveni acknowledged that challenges such as unemployment and poverty persist but affirmed that the government is tackling them with equal dedication.
The ongoing investigation focuses on State House staff accused of leaking classified information. While some individuals are being held for further questioning, Museveni clarified that neither Mukasa nor Nalweyiso is involved in these incidents.
The president also cautioned Ugandans against “parasites” and blackmailers who attempt to defame reputable investors by spreading false accusations.
He urged the public to be mindful of these deceitful tactics, emphasizing that Uganda’s economy continues to thrive due to investments from countries like China, India, the UAE, and various European nations.
Museveni stressed the importance of harnessing the skills of both educated and uneducated patriots in building Uganda’s future. While educated individuals bring valuable expertise, uneducated citizens, like Nalweyiso, offer invaluable experience and unwavering patriotism essential for the country’s progress.
