The education ministry has cleared circulating news that schools were set to reopen. Schools were closed in March, 2020 following COVID-19 pandemic and there has been suspense as to when learners will resume studies.
In a document circulating social media, the schools are set to reopen on 20th September, 2020. Other news showed candidates, universities and tertiary institutions were allowed to reopen.
However, in a letter issued by Mr Patrick Muinda on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, the ministry asked the public to disregard the news. He advised that correct information would be issued by relevant authorities at the right time.
The Minister of Education Janet Kataha Museveni on 2nd September,2020 issued a letter directing that capitation grants to schools be released.
Senior presidential advisor on pandemics Dr Monica Musenero also on 7th said the government in a task force meeting with president Museveni had okayed schools that fulfilled COVID-19 guidelines to reopen 20th September, 2020.
The National Council for Higher Education executive director Dr Mary Okwakol on 1st September, 2020 issued a letter allowing medical students to resume since they are needed to replace those yet to complete their internship in hospitals and other health facilities.
