Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) chairperson, Fagil Mandy has said he will not resign until President Yoweri Museveni forces him to.

The Inspector of General of Government (IGG) recently asked the Ministry of Education to investigate Mandy on 10 counts of malpractice relating to the recruitment of the UNEB Executive Secretary, Mathew Bukenya.

A report released on March 17 by the IGG indicated that Mandy had indeed flouted the procedures. “The act of Mr Mandy taking the applications away from the Uneb secretariat and having an outsider do the long listing was in contravention of the Uneb personnel manual,” Justice Irene Mulyagonja said.

However, Mandy has today told New Vision that he will not resign unless the President forces him to.

“When I read the report I said this is good food. It talks about Fagil Mandy yet UNEB is a very big institution!” he said. “I cannot resign until the President tells me,” Mandy said.

The IGG had ordered the Minsiter of Education, Jessica Alupo to advise the President to consider reviewing his decision of appointing Fagil Musa Mandy as chairperson of Uneb.
