MTN Uganda Announces Annual 2013 Results

Mtn Uganda has today announced it’s 2013 annual results at Serena Hotel with the First Lady and Minister for Karamoja Hon. Janet Museveni as the guest honour.

According to the tweets and facebook posts on their social media platforms, MTN Uganda has 1200 employees. 50 percent of these positions are occupied by ladies.

“MTN Uganda ended 2013 with 8.8 million subscribers. At the end of the year, we had 2.4 million internet users, market share of 53.5%, Mobile Money subscription of 5.2 million and market penetration of 44%. We managed to register 96% subscribers by September 2013. 4% were disconnected for non registration. Subscriber base has increased across the group, so has data and Mobile Money. There is increasing market share despite the competition, MTN Mobile Money continues to lead in Uganda” said MTN Uganda CEO – @Mazen_Mroue as he presented his speech.

The CEO said that Mobile Money subscribers have continued to grow at 47% increase in the last year. 69% of MTN Uganda customers are registered with MTN Mobile money and Mazen said it is a good thing. “There has been growth in Taxes paid by MTN Uganda as compared to 2011 because of the price war in 2011″ According to Mazen MTN Uganda continues to remit taxes and this makes it the biggest taxpayer in Uganda.

In response to a question regarding Mtn Uganda buying Orange Uganda, Mr. Mazen said “We as MTN Uganda don’t have any official information to share with you in regards to buying any local telecom operator.”

Some of the outstanding results include;

MTN has contributed UGX 68 Billion to the Rural Development Community fund.
Over 175,000Km in Uganda is covered by MTN’s fibre out of the 250,000km that Uganda has.
Network quality continues to improve. UCC targets were met in 2013. Only two operators including MTN Uganda have met the UCC network targets.
MTN Uganda registered less than 2% in terms of dropped calls.

More than 20,000 participated in the MTN Marathon where UGX 400 Million was collected. ”At MTN Uganda, we don’t give back out of pity. We give back out of love.” Chairman Charles Mbire noted. 2013 MTN Marathon proceedings are going to our brothers and sisters in Karamoja.

“The people of Karamoja are very deserving of this donation.” said the First Lady Janet Museveni.

Hon. Nyombi Thembo Minister of State for Information and Communications Technology said “Government is handling Vandalism of Telecom equipment to attract more investment.”

MTN Uganda has registered positive performance for the year ending 31 December 2013, increasing its subscriber base by 14.4% to 8.8 million, driven by strong acquisition promotions, segmented offerings and the continued success of MTN Zone according to the MTN Group Results released on 5th, March 2014 in Johannesburg South Africa. MTN continued to show good results in a changing environment.
